>I have to give a lecture on pharmacology for a Wilderness Medicine
course next week. I thought it would be half an hour - but I have just
been told it is at least 1.5 hours - gulp.<
Do you? Why? Lectures don't work (Ed Literature ad nauseam) so engage your
participants
by asking them what they already know about your topic. Then make them
write down one burning question each (give em 3 minutes) then extract each
and every one after they introduce themselves (ice breaker and anti
hypnotic). Then present your stuff in no more than 20 minute aliquots (I a
veteran lecture attender with well honed attention span would be dead bored
by then) and alolow at least 10 minutes bladder break half way. Include a
plenary reflecting some questions back to some people by name - who knows
you might actually catalyse a real discussion rather than Form Pet Syndrome
(questions at the end) and give 'em a memorable evening. Dont bomb them
with slides - more than 12 per hour constitutes an abuse of human rights on
a captive audience : - )

PS Agree about the Master Classes in Research at RCGP - hopefully theyll be
summarised in the Journal that everybody loves to slag.
PPS Noticed how many RCGP slaggers get printed in the Drug Firm Controlled
free garbage?
Just at a time when a little collegiality might give us a tad more job
security? : - )
