Individuals may be replaceable, but not the whole damn lot of us.
Patients do benefit form being treated by a fit doctor.
How many of us have on occasions glanced out of the window while a
patient is talking, and lost track of what the patient said, because we
are tired, bored, fed-up, have tummy ache, need the loo, have a
headache, etc.
How many of us have ever struggled to work full of cold/temperature, and
looked at the patient thinking *you're healthier than I am* ?
These are minor illnesses, but I am sure many of us work on through
major ones as well.
The decisions we make about a patient's management are inevitably
affected by our own state (of health and mind)
Surely we make better decisions when well ourselves?
So the patient benefits.
And even if they didn't why shouldn't they contribute to our health
provision - we pay taxes too you know.
Yet because of our situation we are provided for in a piecemeal fashion.
