Please pardon a couple questions from a naive but interested outsider:
1) A consultant here would simply issue a Rx for one month with
instructions to "refill x2". If not legal there to refill a Rx (?),
could consultant not issue three Rx dated appropriately?
2) Does this have anything to do with whose prescribing budget this Rx
gets reflected on? Does the consultant "gain" by having an expensive Rx
reflected in your Rx instead of his?
If the consultant expected me to do 'interim monitoring', I should
expect a letter detailing *exactly* what part I was to play and
precisely what I was to watch for.
The livelihood of consultants here depends in fair measure in keeping
referring GPs happy and this involves taking good care of a GP's
patients *and* the GP (timely reports, relatively good communication,
etc.). Since I might have a choice of 4 neurosurgeons / 12 orthopods /
15 cardologists in the urban center, I can expect reasonably decent
treatment for both my patients and me. Does competition for patients
play no part in consultancy there? :-))
