Does anyone on the list have any personal experience or knowledge of a GP who
has returned to practice successfully after suffering a stroke?
I am a forty year old male GP working in a three surgery practice ( 10,000
patients altogether ) with four partners. I suffered a dense right hemiplegia
( infarct ) in July 1997. Risk factors were mild hypertension, high
cholesterol and being overweight plus stress of practice! Luckily my neuro.
deficit is purely motor - I do not have a hemianopia or sensory loss. Speech
is good and cognition is normal.
I am trying to teach myself to write with my left hand - I am right handed -
but the results are not brilliant at the moment! I can type well with my left
hand as you can see!
After quite a lot of physio, my walking is coming along ok but my arm function
is still pretty basic. Hopefully it will improve as time passes. I am aiming
to return part time in April this year and gradually build up. Any comments,
suggestions, observations, etc.
