Thanks, Tom, for the supportive comments against the US blockade, a gross
violation of the human rights of 11 million Cubans and, indeed, the rest of
us.
You are in good company, last week the UN voted again that this blockade
must end ( 157 in favour to 2 against, US and Israel).
This huge and growing vote is partly a result of the way US imposes its
views on the rest of the world - for instance ...
SmithKline Beecham, a British company, is still awaiting US 'permission' to
work with Cuba on their advanced meningitis vaccine - VA-MENGOC-BC. (see BBC
question to US State Dept representative
http://www.usia.gov/regional/ar/us-cuba/rann15.htm)
The UN has also tired of repeated US attempts to justify its gross policies
under the guise of protecting human rights in Cuba.
In April 98 the UN Human Rights Commission rejected a US resolution
attacking human rights in Cuba.
Regarding AI
Unfortunately Amnesty's greatest strength is also its biggest weakness - it
focuses on the individual at the cost of the general population.
Let's resolve the big problem - the 35 year US economic war and the
terrorism against Cuba - then I think you'll find Cuba's war time
restrictions on organisations and 'enemy propaganda' will resolve themselves
very quickly.
Regards, Mark
