The thing which bothers me most about working in the NHS isn't the money as
it happens - although it is a major consideration. It is the appalling state
of funding of the service as a whole. In the long term, this is the most
demoralising thing about the Health Service, and I suspect it is a larger
part of the recruitment problem than many people (government included)
realise. Crap buildings, appalling equipment, leaking roofs and dodgy
electrics are taken for granted in hospitals these days. GP is somewhat
better, since we have more direct control over our buildings, but with
salaries virtually pegged and expenses rising so strongy as a result of
every new governement policy, I can see this becoming a problem too.
PFI of premises is a terrifically flawed idea, and as for PFI of computer
systems, well kiss my bot.
