.......the computer industry's latest idea based on "mining the data
warehouse". Their term is not significant, beyond the splendidly mixed
metaphor. "Data warehouse" is firm evidence that the computer industry is
losing its grip on reality. (Did it have one?) It was no doubt coined by
some cybernaut who thinks warehouse means stylish utilitarianism, like a
Manhattan loft.
To anyone in the real world, a warehouse is a gloomy shed run by a joker in
a brown coat who, when asked to find anything within, inhales sharply
through his teeth and says darkly: "If you'd come yesterday I might have
been able to help you........"
Hmmmmm. Sounds familiar.
