Can anyone help me with some background info regarding the above?
As the temporary (=unwilling) chairman of our local GP hospital medical
staff committee, and about to start negotiations for an increase in the
Bed Fund, I would be interested to know what other people get around the
country.
Am faintly horrified to see in medeconomics that the fund (ukp466.25 for
each eligible bed) is recommended.
I seem to remember reading somewhere about a scale of fees ukp 50 or so
for the first day in hospital per patient, 10 thereafter, which seems to
me more reasonable.
There is no resident medical cover at the hospital. I have been in twice
on a saturday, once to clerk the old boy in, the next week to catheterise.I
reckon 2 saturdays mucked up is using up a significant chunk of my
466.25 and that's just in 2 weeks on one patient.
Although I quite like the service, and the patients love it, (friendly
local hosp. that saves 15 mile trip to DGH with nurses that don't have
time to talk, let alone wipe vomit etc.) I really don't see that I want
to continue being exploited. trouble is, of course, if all the doctors
resign, the droids will rub their hands with glee and shut the place,
telling the media that it is all the doctors' fault.
Cheerio,
