An associated issue is that 'large' emails may not pass through the
network intact. The converse is that some email users and/or email
applications cannot cope with multipart email. For these two reasons
sending of large emails requires some form of negotiation with the
recipient. If you assume that your recipient will receive your 1 MB
email you may be disappointed. If you assume your recipient can put back
together a multipart email you may be disappointed. Another spanner in
your works, if you will excuse the analogy, is your recipient may be a
keen anti-spammer and operate a mail filtering system that will
automatically bounce emails above a certain size. Finally, it's just
plain polite to ask! I routinely exchange large emails with known
sources as part of my day to day work. That is not a problem. I
occasionally receive large emails that I don't want from people I hardly
know. That *is* unwelcome.
Chris
P.S. Rule of thumb regarding threshold for splitting large emails is 50
to 60K.
