The following was just posted on the uk.community.voluntary newsgroup. I
have no connection with the author or the article. Just keeping the
information flowing!

The introduction of Primary Care Groups will have a major impact on the
relations between the NHS and voluntary community organisations
interested in health issues. In many areas GPs are not renown for their
liaison with voluntary organisations in health planning. In the next few
years there are likely to be many changes which affect the funding of,
or need for, voluntary based community services. There could well be
differences between individual PCGs, Health Authorities and Regions, and
it is important that voluntary organisations exchange information on the
problems they face and the solutions that have been found.
This forum would seem to be a good place for such an exchange.
To get things rolling may I suggest that you post an answer to the
following questions as far as possible (say don't know rather than delay
answering):
(1) Have you heard of Primary Care Groups, and if so, do you know the
names of the primary care groups covering the area you work.
(2) Have there been any meetings to explain what is happening to Joe
Public - and if so who organised them.
(3) The local Community Health Council has observer status on some NHS
Boards. Has this been agreed for your local Primary Care Group?
(4) Has the lay member of the Board been appointed yet - and if so what
is his/her background to represent the public? (For instance is he a
businessman, a local councillor, a member of a local voluntary
organisation, a carer, disabled, etc.)
If you have any other views as to how the move to set up Primary Care
Groups is proceeding, or how they could affect your organisation, this
might be best covered by a separate posting to start a new thread.
