I think it is very interesting to hear what Ahmad is up to and I
look forward to seeing the wizard system he is talking about, it
sounds as though several potential future suppliers are now doing it
right.

As to the NVUG setting things straight, this would be good, but the
NVUG has a publicly expressed policy of not doing so, of giving no
prominence to problems "in order to protect members' investment in
their systems", so I think it would be promotional.

<rumour and speculation>
As it happens, news has reached me that in some areas there have
been detectable changes of which some may in due course be assessed
as improvements since Claude took over, and certainly I found him a
more forthright respondent than others in the company. I think they
could be said to be back on probation if one were kind-hearted.

The other rumours that reach me, and I find it difficult to assign
probabilities to, are that RHI recognising that entering the health
market was a mistake wishes to divest itself of Vamp and the rump of
MicroSolutions; that RHI proposes to buy EMIS, whose directors took
(apparently according to the accounts presented at Companies House)
£6M out last year leaving working capital reserves quoted at £750k
which might be thought to be a small reserve for producing a new NT
system and so on.

It is very hard to make any sense out of those, but if either of
them was true it would of course be amatter fo considerable interest
to the users of the various systems, and might lead PCG IT people to
takea new and intense interest in any other systems which might be
available, particularly if they were more scalable than FoxPro or
had lower costs per seat than MUMPS.

</rumour and speculation>

Again, the accounts of how many ex SM users are accepting RHIs offer
of free Vision, free training, free conversion, free installation
and merely the need to buy a server which would generally be thought
of as remarkably powerful for Netware 3.2 compared to how many whose
opinion is that even such a cheap migration as that does not provide
them with what they most want, a different supplier, vary according
to source.
