Thanks for all the contributions on this one both here and privately
Unfortunately the advice seems mixed and the situation is still messy at my
practice end
An Update:
The Romanian chap received a diagnosis of Ca Lung in Romania but had some
concerns over the quality of the diagnosis in particualr the quality of a CT
scan and interpretation. He has no insurance.
His daughter (a doctor btw - over here attached to the University doing some
research on a 1 year visa.) arranged for a private opinion from a specialist
ie He has come to UK for expert investigation and treatment for this
condition. The specialist suggested he *simply* register with a GP.
Now despite me now being perceived in my practice as a hard hearted, cruel
ba****d, how can you desert a poor dying man caddish bounder - I have bowed
under the practice democratic decision that we take this man on as a temp
res ( we have shared lists) *and* provide fp10s for drugs we would otherwise
ordinarily be happy to prescribe *even* if advised by the specialist.
One of the reasons my partners wanted this was so that we did not receive
local bad publicity (small semi rural village type practice) and because he
is "proper poorly" and because of the uncertainty around the rules (didn't
want to get into unwitting trouble with GMC for refusing treatment etc..
I know many of you wont agree with this approach BUT are we in fact breaking
any regulations given the info above?
