Yes, by majority vote. We have always had an LMC member - own time. We
had a clinical tutor - own time. GP-Forum - own time. Co-op director -
own time etc. I look after the computers - own time. The practice does
not believe in PCGs except as a source of mainly politically motivated
administration changes - one of our practice nurses ably represents us
and is on the shadow board. We have a student but that is in practice
time. We were originally turned down as a training practice because our
workload was too high and since then have refused re-considered offers
(yah-boo sucks :-) ).
As a practice we believe our contract specifies clinical commitment
only. Anything outwith the immediate surgery which will not break our
contract by ignoring becomes a personal interest. That way there is no
conflict of interest. Anyone is free to do whatever they want to in
their spare time, and do do so, but without placing a strain upon our
main business of the day. Funnily enough, we get on very well between
ourselves.
