I've been doing a lot of thinking about Y2000, and it seems to me there
are 2 possible scenarios - minor glyches or total meltdown. I may be
able to do something about the former - but if, for instance,
electricity or fuel supplies are disrupted on a long-term basis, nothing
I do now is going to help, (Anyone remember the BMA report on the
medical effects of nuclear war? It questiond the MOD's assumption that
the NHS would keep functioning much as before - or even that treatment
of casualties would, in the event of total breakdown, be more important
than sanitation and clean water... Sound familiar?)
I am, therefore, developing a *personal* short-term survival plan - and
need some information.
Is there such a thing as a wind-up computer (like the windup radio - on
order)? or better still, a solar power battery charger which could run
my laptop?
Any of you into alternative energy?
I seem to remember someone who only allowed his children to watch TV if
they generated the electricity by cycling (bicycle attached to a
generator). I've already got the bicycle..
TIA
