The battle for control between Managers and Health professionals has been
going against us since the sixties. Largely because we are such an
immature, bolshy, disorganised lot. We have failed to develop any
strategic skills or agree on any shared policies. instead we are deluded
by our own natal cleft sunburn into thinking that our moaning can
substitute for action. When Multifunds started employing top managers
rather than being emploted by them we developed mutual adult respect for
our differing skills. PCGs will only succeed in turning the battle in our
favour if sufficient GPs realise that expert management employed by them
are the best allies we can get to solve this morale problem and control
the money to influence our working environment.
