Why?
This was a thorny issue in our practice when the female partner had 6
months paid maternity leave (x2 births) and the male partners
effectively contributed timewise and financially to her leave. When
wives had children, I think every single male partner carried on working
except for a few hours at delivery. Not even a week or two off to
welcome the new members of their family. Real macho men, huh?
The salaries and work load are the same. Why should personal situations
which are planned, not accidental, produce inequality simply because of
sex, so to speak.
Equality cuts both ways.
