I think you've hit the nail on the head. I do 8 (occasionally 9) sessions a
week. Bizarrely I now look forward to PCG meetings if I have to get a
locum, as it means an interesting break in the week. I think this is partly
due to compassion fatigue, but also the training we have as junior doctors.
After 15 years of moving every 4-6 months either job or house (or both),
I've found it very difficult to settle down to doing one job for the rest of
my life. I think our training forced me to become "Project Man". I.e.
learn everything there is to know about e.g. obstetrics, do an exam or two
and then move on. Now I want to do the same in GP, but there isn't the
possibility. I've made sure I see all my diabetic, hypertensives, etc at
least once a year (or rather written to them, they have to decide whether to
come). My list size is >2k, so I don't need to worry. Should I start
quietly kicking off the difficult ones, being more blunt to the hard-liners?
Goes rather against the _caring_ philosophy, but if my sanity is threatened,
I can't be a good GP to the rest. Can I?
