They say "the devil finds work for idle hands".
I try to hang around the surgery as little as possible.
The more I'm there, the more work there is.
If I'm not there, either the work doesn't develop,
or (of course) someone else does it.
Viz... this morning. I finished surgery nearly on time.
Then did a bit of paperwork. I had a couple of phone
calls to make. I thought, shall I make them at home
or here? Mistake. I made them there. Just as I was about
to leave, the practice nurse comes in and I here her
ask the receptionist "Is one of the doctors still here?"
Bugger. So she comes in and asks me if I'd visit and
old duck with a bad chest. It could be left until the
morning, she suggests, (when I'm not here, but my two
partners are). Bugger. Mistake 2. I can't do that, even
though I know it would be done to me, and has, in the
past, been done to me. Sh*t. Why was I born with a
conscience? See, if I'd buggered off home asap then there
would have been less work to do.
