I see that Syntegra have put up a bid to provide GPs with hardware via
private companies "such as drug companies and private health insurers
who would give the hardware free to GPs. The pay-off for the companies
would be guaranteed advertising space on GPs computer screens".
Anyone got any comments?
I always thought commercial breaks were there to allow you to get a cup
of coffee (or send an email!).. and my normal reaction is to turn the TV
off.. permanently.
I'm not sure *how* this advertising could be guaranteed - unless the
software was fixed as well.. it does seem to assume something more than
a mousemat or screensaver...
Has anyone even thought of asking how GPs, already often reluctant to
spend more time on consultation due to using a computer would view this
further attempt to waste time in consultations?
I suppose I should just be grateful that a company which still appears
unable to provide a good SMTP/X400 interface, *or* transmit file
attachments.. er,, rest of thought deleted!
Looking forward to a very early retirement if this goes through ( no
smileys, I *mean* it!)

PS I always admired Francis Bacon. He was impeached when Chancellor for
taking bribes. His defence was that he'd taken the bribes - but never
allowed it to influence his judgement.
I suppose people who gave bribes felt they'd been wasting their money..
