I am astonished. Under what regulations?
I have received a request from a patient who I believe (after a full history
and my usual examination (BP, testes,peripheral pulses, urine dip for
sugar)) has a genuine clinical need. He is willing to pay for  a private
prescription. It took him a great deal of courage to make the appointment
and htere is a relationship which is suffering because of his ED. My medical
advisor told me to wait because SMAC (standing medical advisory board) will
be issuing advice "shortly" on "who will qualify for treatment". I cant
belive my patient would fail anyones shortlist. I was also told that the HA
would "come down on me hard" - Said in a jocular manner and it passed me by
at the time, but i would like to know what powers they do have.
I have asked the patient to come back in a week while I think through the
issues

Think I'll write to the LMC for a specific answer as to whether they will
back me in prescribing a listed non-blacklisted drug for a licensed
indication to a patient I have fully assessed when I am fully prepared to
accept prescribing and therefore legal responsibiltiy. If they are then I
will write an FP10 on Friday

Anyone know different? I have lost the government circular that came around
with the specific instructions from the government
