Much as I admire the sentiments, Jeff, I must point out that dispensing
docs like non-disp. ones, are paid a certain amount to cover
*expenses* including dressings etc. This amount is derived from the
overall expenses bill worked out from a sample of GP accounts taken from
the Inland Revenue. So, if we all stop paying for dressings,we all get
paid less in the long run. (Some colleagues who complain about OOH costs
don't seem to recognise this simple fact.)
As for dressings,if one is prescribing dressings, then it_must_ be a whole
box eg 100 Topper 8s, 10 Granuflex 10x10cms etc. A Rx for 2 would
be returned.
So yes, if we wanted to be really cheap, you could prescribe an old
biddy 10, use one and save the rest for other people. Alternatively, you
could pressure your GPC representative or the LMC, to fight staged pay
rises, and pay for the dressings that you use, like you are supposed to.
And to show I can be as cheap as the next person, can anyone out there
ell me why I *can't* use KY jelly instead of *proper* ECG/Ultrasound
jelly? I do, and have not noticed any difference to the quality of the
recording.
