I entirely agree with you.
I had a meeting with our HA Chief Exec yesterday relating to my
feeling of lack of value and respect of my experience and opinions,
and that of all GPs, by the HA and Trusts.
We got around to talking about remuneration for PCG board members.
I said that for one session a week a GP would need about 5,000 UKP
just to cover locum fees and then there would have to be some more.
He was somewhat annoyed and fell back onto the old liternay of
waiting for Central Guidance.
So I asked him how much would he would *he* value a GPs remuneration
on a PCG board? He declined to answer. So I painted the worst case
scenario to him. Supposing the GP members on PCG board at the first
meeting refused to carry on unless they were paid such a 'wage' I had
suggested. He visibly paled. He said he would have to think about
this.
I didn't rub salt into the wound by proposing that the nurse members
should be paid the *same* as the GPs! i.e. a decent wack e.g.
equivalent of a consultant session (3,500UKP?) plus expenses to
provide cover in their practice or organisation plus personal
expenses.
Can you see Dobo and Tory Blair giving us anything close to this?
Can you see the BMA/GPC/UKCC fighting for anything close to this?
