<<Anyone who *really* wants to do such stultifying jobs as accountancy or
computing  deserves some compensation!  I'm prepared to sacrifice this
financial comparability in order to do a job which I find endlessly
fascinating, challenging, etc etc. It's so sad that  so many GPs  sound
like
whiny children these days, who throw a tantrum because someone's said 'no'.
After all, they presumably *chose* general practice very carefully; but
somehow
so many sound like victims - you're not a 'victim' unless that's where you
belong.  Anyone who really cannot create alternative rewards out of a
career as
'rich' as GP should help their patients and go into accountancy or
computing.....so there!

I think, from careful reading of the above, that you have entirely missed
the point I was trying to make.  
Can I make it again?
The gap between us and some other fields is even wider than usually stated
by GMSC etc.  The vocational element/variety/satisfaction etc are no longer
enough to compensate for the income gap and the workload gap---as shown by
the  present state of ill-health of many GPs, the  recruitment problems and
the unfilled vacancies. I am delighted that you are fortunate enough to
find GP so satisfying. Unfortunately many do not.  Those GPs include some
of the most dedicated professionals you will find in *any* field and often
they have made the mistake???  of simply doing the job too well, putting
too much of themselves into it, opening their hearts and minds to suffering
humanity and suffering dreadfully themselves as a result.
