I attended one of these, with two of my partners, last week. It was
described as a 'very clinical case'. I won't go into details as we are
awaiting the report. However, what I have got to get off my chest, is the
seething anger I still have. The non-medical 'panelists' were fine. There
were two, so-called GP assessors. One was utterly ignorant, both of the
case and it seemed of most medical matters in general. He had clearly not
read the case notes nor read around the clinical area in question. As we
exposed his ignorance, he resorted to very offensive comments about us. The
other GP, was I think, too embarassed to say very much at all. Between
them, they didn't even begin to scratch the surface of the case.
I feel that a golden opportunity to clear up what was largely a series of
misunderstandings has been completely cocked up at enormous expense! If the
complaining family had a similar experience, I imagine they will be
seething also.
Who appoints the GP assessors?
Who do we complain to about the way we were treated?
Is there a veto system to object to crap GP assessors?
Our defence union say we should wait for the final report in 2-3 months
time. I think we should express out total lack of confidence in the medical
advice from the two GP assessors and if necessary, start the whole process
from scratch.
I really thought that the Indepedant Review system could work. I am now
seriously thinking of doing an 'Ahmed', ie resigning in disgust.
Anyone had similar experiences?
