The Acorn newsgroups have been buzzing with this for a fortnight
now. Various rescue plans in the offing, but the advance of the
Gates/Windows axis looks ever more poweful.
> They have pulled the plug on Phoebe too.
Maybe. Maybe not. My 1500 quid is safe for the moment,
but something code-named "Phoenix" (originality, for you)
may yet rise from the ashes to claim a stake on my bank
balance.
> Many 100s of schools will feel the chill.
Eventually, perhaps, but not in the short term. All will
proceed much as before, and the net boxes may provide
a better school solution anyway.
My RISC OS machines have served me well since 88 and I would
strongly imagine they'll continue to do so until 08, IYSWIM.
I don't preach, and I don't try to convert. However, each time
I see a post here or in the wilds of the newsgroups from someone
whose machine keeps crashing or mysteriously fails to work
whenever they have loaded the latest piece of m$oft bloatware,
I cannot prevent a wry smile from gently deforming my lips.
