Having done many a session for our local Co-op, I can seldom think of an
instance when access to a patient's records would have been useful.
It may be simplistic but a true emergency can generally be sorted out without
the patient's records, usually by sending the patient to hospital ;-) Anything
less than this can be left for the patient's own GP to deal with, with the
minimum intervention from the Co-op doctor. Too many patients unfortunately
regard the Co-op as an extension of normal surgery hours.
Oh, and IMHO, patients should be ready and able to give an accurate history
and list of their medication instead of abdicating all responsibility for the
smooth running of out of hours services :-))
