Of course they are, unless there's at least some assessment first and
good back up if anything goes wrong. In my experience (hence shouldn't
be taken as "evidence", just anecdote) most women look alarmed at any
mention of home births, but it is the GPs who tend to look alarmed when
they are suggested by pregnant women. My experience of women who want
home deliveries is that they have been rather alarming in themselves (eg
my wife:-) or alarmingly unsuitable by reason of parity, previous
difficult births, or medical or (more likely) psychiatric problems or
(even more likely) personality disorders.
Please do not generalise from my experience which may be due to bad luck
with women:-(
