The Flash always seemed more attractive to people who read about it
rather than those of us with Balint training who tried to
understand what was going on. The original idea was that the sudden
new intuition was experienced both by the doctor and by the patient
who seemed to perceive things in a new way too. I haven't
experienced this very often and I think that the idea of the Flash
is just too flashy to be useful, even if it does happen
sometimes. It did however successfully sell the book written about
it.
