What do people think about post-natal visits.?
I worked as a locum for one GP who insisted that all post-natal ladies were
visited daily for a week after discharge, regardless of how long they'd been
in hospital. After the second visit I felt decidedly useless turning up at
the door, but what made it worse was that quite a lot of these women didn't
even speak English, so the role of post-natal visiting as educational
opportunity was wasted .
However, I do quite enjoy visiting happy new mums in middle-class homes, and
going goo over their little cute new babies, and it's the most likely time
to be offered a cup of tea by a patient (usually by the father, who's
hanging around, not quite sure what to do with himself). Unfortunately, my
post-natal education spiel lasts slightly less long than a cup of hot tea
takes to drink.
As for the payment schedule for post-natal care - the two words that spring
to mind are impenetrable and bizarre.
What does anyone else think?
