Indeed.
I am well aware that the man standing in the corner, complaining
bitterly about his lot, but doing little about it, is rarely
a man to be respected or welcomed.
Which is why my tune has been changing.
It may have taken 7 years as a GP to change but it *is*
changing.
I have developed a "mission statement" - have I told you
this already?
"99% of everything is shit. Only the depth varies. One's
aim in life (or mission, if you will) is to seek out
and nurture the 1%"
Which is what I am doing. Trying to make sure my children
grow up surrounded by the 1% (although I shall make
sure that they are aware of the existence of the other
99%). Trying to keep focussed on the 1%. Trying not
to get too pissed off about the 99%.
I reckon 99% of general practice is shit. (well, ok, maybe
not 99% but about 90% at least). It's just a question
of keeping the focus on the enjoyable bits. Such as
the new baby who was recently registered, called
John Eric Cantona Smith. hehehehe
I have also come to terms with the fact that 99% of
EVERYTHING is shit, so that I now realise that GP
is nothing special or out of the ordinary.
