Thanks
I've been meaning to take a longer look at NLP for some time.
I certainly feel that I must be a member of a minority of GPs who find it
difficult to cope with their colleagues coping mechanisms. Passivity and
appeasement do not come easily. Fortunately my partners feel as I do but it is
rather depressing for the long term future of the profession. I think we've
been insulated from these forces by the state system since 1948 and only now
are we fully exposed to the danger of professional civil service adversaries
with a huge political imperative to reduce public spending. Its really like
taking candy from babies for them.
Time to make for the lifeboats, I think.

Medical personality types research? Nope other than Dr Centred v Pt
centred behaviour which may be some kind of marker. Obsevation though: a=
re
you familiar with the 4 Social Styles as promulgated by the school of NLP=
and learnt assiduously by sales reps.? They find this model useful becaus=
e
it helps them predict your BACKUP BEHAVIOUR ie. what you do when you star=
t
to get irritated. They then clear off to preserve the relationship. Those=
styles are
1. Amiable soft, intuitive teamworkers - paranoid "must be my fault"=
when backed up or attacked
2. Expressive - loud articulate extroverts who perform - verbal and
sarcastic in backup usually escalating a dispute
3. Driver - heavy stare , short commanding speech - you cease to exist if=
you irritate them
4. Analytical - lengthy, repetitive, all angles checked over and over -
sulk or withdraw in backup
Can be fun to think of examples of these extremes. People usually a mixtu=
re
of two styles but the =
most successful socialites flex in any direction - a RARE gift.
Observation: does this apply to consulting?. It has helped me on numerous=
occasions with heartsinks to establish trust and regain some control.
Observation 2: that most GPs are amiable- expressive (IE the lower reache=
s
of assertiveness but
people centred) and that drivers and analyticals that stray into practice=
have a pretty bad time?
