<<The security of tenure of general practice are great, but it doesn't
come cheap.>>
What security? We have a "contract" which is worth nothing because HMG
can change it at any time, we have an income which in amount and method of
payment is an insult to any professional, we have bugger all support in
the event of us taking ill, we have at least five different ways of being
complained about or sued, we are here to be dumped on and there is no
sign of any improvement.
To quote some revolutionary songwriter (the song was 'Hiroshima Nagasaki
Russian Roulette'---some of you forty-somethings might remember it from
folk festivals)------
"You call it security
But we're not satisfied."
And if PCGs take off they will mostly be run by the sort of people you
would rather not have anything to do with----think they are going to give
us jobs for life in the new dispensation? Like hell! Power corrupts and
all that, PCGs running primary care are not a good idea for that one
reason alone. Three-year contracts? One-year contracts? One slip in
the smear figures and you're out? I didn't become a GP to take bloody
smears, I did it to look after sick people.
SOrry, this is getting boring. Back to the accounts, Declan.
