I was speaking to someone last week who is contracted to check some gp
practice systems and found a lack of Y2K compliance with some standard gp
systems and disagreed with the suppliers plan of action.
The big question is who is to pay for all of this? Free upgrades cover a very
trivial side of the real cost. Add in wasted management/professional time
for starters. My contact was being paid by the local health authority. Why
should they, ie we, pay for his time? The IT industry lit the fire. Let
them pay to put it out.
