I think that the Foundation for Information Policy Research -launched
yesterday in London with Ross Anderson as Chairman and Caspar Bowden as
C/E- will have the potential to allow us to access the necessary
technical competence (or else commission relevant research) when we have
concerns about the technical aspects of security of identifiable personal
data. It should provide a continuing resource in depth- instead of the
reacti ve scrabbling around that we have been forced into previously. I
think it unrealistic to expect the NHSE (or the Governments ) agenda will
mirror exactly the concerns of doctors or patients. Nor can the NHSE
provide us withthe independant technical and legal insights required.
FIPR has serious start-up funds and is likely to attract more.
It will be provide a great resource for competent campaigning and
lobbying on a whole range of privacy issues.
It's good to catch up with you Anna- I realise now that I spelled your
name wrong on email address- I thought you had left lse ....Regards,
Fleur Fisher
