Adrian, Thanks for info on the Exeter mtg.- Any chance you could email
orfax (no 0171 483 4541) the notice of the mtg. so that I can see who the
speakers were?
Great that you were there to point out the acknowledged (Tho stll not by
HMG , this one or the last) risks of centralised databases, esp. of
IDENTIFIABLE health info. All such data should be effectively
deidentified before it leaves the treating unit or GP practice. Data can
still be specific and linkable, but not identifiable except by the
treating clinician. Arguably, this process should be as well understood
and adhered to as the principles and practice of asepsis and prevention
of crossinfection. It is a quality issue. To disregard it is negligent.
Patients know that their data will be accessible to those clinically
responsible for their care and professionally accountable for protecting
their confidentiality. But they don't sign up to their identifiable data
floating all round the NHS (and elsewhere) without their knowledge and
consent. It is an outrageous invasion of privacy.
The meeting at Wolverhampton on June5th sounds wortha visit : thanks
Paul.
Thanks for news from the trenches! Fleur Fisher.
