Here I sit with my 486SX 25MHz...
The PC I supplied for my daughter to take to university, which is a
Cyrix chipped 233 with lots of RAM and I think I want one as well...
has the current version of W95 on it which boasts on its startup
screen "with USB support" just where the previous version chuntered
on about some single-paned Web browser that I suppose can't have
caught on - hence the change.
So yes, the current W95 which I suppose is OSR/3 supports USB. I
think the USB port must be the one that looks a bit like a miniature
DIN socket, next to the serial port.
So what shall I use to rebuild my old machine? Intel processor in a
big edge connector, or Cyrix in Socket 7?
The only wobbly we have had from non-Intel processor, perhaps, is
that PKZip committed illegal acts and didn't work, which could be a
nuisance. Anyone met a PKZip problem with non-Intel CPUs?
