about "Fees for influenza immunisation. Correction".
"your only avenue to obtain any remuneration for
immunising your own NHS patients against flu, including the worried
well, is through the supply of the vaccine under paragraph 44.5 rules.
Since there is still no Red Book fee for hepatitis B ( as opposed
to infectious hepatitis) vaccination, you can currently charge
a fee if the immunisation is related to foreign travel, but not
otherwise."
1. Yes, yes and a rude remark about N&E Devon HA...
2. Jump on for the answer to making money out of this.
I knew that.
The rules are so Byzantine that nobody understands them, let me give
another example, using it to demonstrate the continuing incompetence
of the NHS in using appropriate technology, with particular
reference to the ineptitude of N&E Devon HA who in addition are
maintaining their reputation of never asking somebody who knows
before issuing an edict, and then complaining they are short of
money, as they retract it.
A sensible, clever, but in all matters relating to the Red Book,
ignorant Public Health Doctor (excellent chap really, dedicated and
no doubt capable at arithmetic and all the other skills of the
non-clinical epidemiologist) issued advice on charging for some
immunisations. By fax to all practices.
Then issued a correction, by fax, all practices,
Then a correction to the coreection, by fax, all practices.
I think it might have been cheaper to have got it right first, even
if that had cost the £20 or so one of us wouldhave charged to proof
read it against the SFA, but even if it had been necessary to send
it out and retract it, using an e-mail, or even better a static
intranet system to publish it on would have been cheaper to correct,
and avoided the waste of crinkly smelly paper that less technical
practices than my own no doubt spewed out of fax machines, and of
time in reading all three of them.
2. But, if you refuse something that the NHS should not supply, and
your colleague down the road offers it privately....
And vice versa....
