Inferior career structure????
Allows many people a chance to be settled while their children are young.
Provides both stability and the opportunity for advancement.
Career structure
After VT - principal if you choose.
After principal (which is IMNSVHO an honourable position) trainer,
researcher, course organiser, GP tutor, academic lecturer / sen. lect. /
prof., co-op director, LMC member or officer, GPC member or officer,
medical author, etc. etc. etc. OR stay a principal full time or part time,
or become a locum, deputy, prison doctor, armed services doctor or any
other equivalent of principal.
We have one of the most desirable career structures in the world, and just
because it isn't perfect is no reason to let those who want us to be "in
training" to age 40 take it over. I worry we're learning the wrong lesson
at the wrong time. Specialist training and career structure is the mess.
GP training and the career structure flawed, like all human endeavour, but
infinitely better.
