Seven years ago, when I joined my current practice,
there were about 5-6 visits a day to be done.
Last week I did not one.
1-2 a week is about average.
It takes time and, as un-PC as it sounds, the
patients do need to be "trained".
As was mentioned on GP-UK recently, one of the best
ways of getting the message across is to screen
requests for visits by telephone when another
patient is in the consulting room with you.
I could explain the dynamics if I thought about it.
I think what I dislike most about home visits, having
given the matter a great deal of thought over the
years, is that patients EXPECT them of me.
And I really, really, REALLY resent the expectation.
Maybe it's just that home visits have become the focus
of a great deal of pent up anger by GPs, I don't know.
