I don't know if an MBA is really the right qualification for someone
contemplating developing their medical management skills; maybe it
depends on the specific course.
Northern Region has been funding about 50 candidates annually to do the
Durham MBA (reasonably acclaimed, part-time over 2 years) however have
discontinued funding as from next year.
There are lots of other courses springing up - diplomas in health
service management, primary care management and so on, from places like
HSMC (Health services management centre, Birmingham - Chris Ham's lot)
and many other universities. Maybe worth contacting the British
Association of Medical Managers to learn their view of the new courses.
I got a place for an MBA at Durham but eventually turned it down as I
felt for the time commitment (and funding - locums as I'm single handed)
I could do better elsewhere.
Depends what you want to get out of it, I guess.
