I think my success rate is higher than this. My impression is that even
the 'grottiest, fungally looking' nails are "false negative" in perhaps
1 in 3 cases. I tend to give a trial of treatment with Lamisil to those
that I am clinically convinced they are fungal if 2 cultures are neg..
I must say the majority of these culture neg nails seem to respond.
This makes me think nail culture is a way of preventing high use of
lamisil rather than being very scientific!
