I think you are a victim of the Curse of Microsoft.
1K is about enough for the file to contain the mocking refrain about
needing a particulr proprietary browser to read a document which
were it not for the war within the States could well be universal.
It is highly probable that whatever nerdnik put the Java in the
files did so to show off or play, rather than because the display of
the information you want to see requires that it be processed on
your machine, by Java code executing there, from a file downloaded
to you. One might be wrong on that, but with the exception of the
PPA prescribing data fromPACT Java applet (which I enjoyed playing
with without using NHS Net<g>) I doubt there is much around of
general use to us that _needs_ Java embedded in it.
JavaScript seems a fairly benign way of embellishing a page to
reduce the space taken up by menus etc, but frankly I think we could
do most of our real business using little more than <h1>, <p> and
<pre> tags (<p> in pairs if you wish) and the link and image tags to
make it hypertext.
So, what you have is likely to be a snotty remark from somebody who
is failing to communicate with you because he is playing with
bleeding edge trivia.
Is it likely that the source is reliable, therefore?
Checking out the www.viagra.com site, using Opera the very reliable
browser, shows how one can display a large amount of info easily and
without needing to play client side coding games.
