If you have your virtual memory disk cache configured for the dynamic
(default) sizing Win95 apparently spends a lot of time tinkering about
with it when it has nothing better to do! Hence the almost continuous
disk activity. However, there can be other causes! I have changed to a
fixed (generous) disk cache size on my brand new Dell yet still get
continuous disk activity. I have noted a high paging error rate which
would logically result in lots of disk access but have yet to track down
the cause. Possible contenders are 1) the 32 bit FAT tuning in the later
Win95 OEM release (OS is tuned but disk is still 16 bit FAT) 2) Non-
error correcting memory (Dell are now offering error correcting memory
if you pay more). I appreciate that I am mixing RAM with Disk
considerations but they are interrelated.
