<<Non-starter from media point of view. Who gives a tuppenny **** how
doctors are paid?' I've never known a poor doctor' is the refrain I've
heard in many a pub.>>
The amount we get is not the problem (well it is actually but not for the
purposes of this discussion) The problem we are discussing is the godawful
waste involved in paying us that amount and the waste of time and talent in
our surgeries co-operating with a system which supposedly ensures
accountability but a smart kid could run rings around.
The waste could well go towards meeting some more need, treating some more
diseases etc etc etc.
And don't forget that using the media is a bit like advertising; there are
no clear criteria of what is newsworthy and even I could probably construct
a media campaign on NHS administrative waste in payment of doctors. You
pick the right time and the right place and hit it from the right angle.
Local press here are very obliging, Belfast press and TV will pick it up
if it is getting column inches across the province and bingo! All of N
Ireland knows about it in no time at all! It would not be that much more
difficult to do it UK-wide.
And don't forget Uncle Tony is supposedly unkeen on NHS management waste
and dead wood.
BTW did you all see him speaking in Armagh tonight? Bloody amazing speech,
no notes, perfect presentation, beautifully in tune with most people's
feelings. I reckon he out-classed Clinton who usually performs extremely
well in N Ireland.
