Hmm....it's open to interpretation. As far as I can gather from my brother
(dentist),who is on holiday again....( a bit of the green eyed monster I'm
afraid), this doesn't mean that dentists have to offer treatment round the
clock. A reasonable response as judged by a responsible body of dentists to a
2am call is "see you in the morning at the surgery". Another thing my dental
mates often say is"you don't die of toothache". One practical problem is the
lack of a dental nurse at that time of night makes operative work very
difficult.
I did hear talk of a dental SHO in A/E doing all the OOH work for dentists but
the idea never took off.
