I hope Trims and Andrew will agree with me but I think what we might have
here is semantic problem;-)
I am in the midst of collecting information about research that has been
carried out on gp-uk and turning it into a webpage for the gp-uk site. The
owners usually like to be asked regarding surveys or other research (not out
of a sense of control but rather personal interest and ensuring people feed
back to the list)
What Roger has asked for is not really a survey as such. It is some
opinions/knowledge based on the vast personal experience of the members
which is a completely legitimate use of gp-uk and one of it's great
strengths.
However framing such requests as 'surveys' is possibly misleading for both
the authors and respondents to the survey. Survey design is quite complex
(I would say that I'm a researcher!) and two questions don't usually make a
survey. Secondly the experience of others who have attempted to use gp-uk as
a captive survey population has been one of low response given the
membership of 650+ and combined with the profile of the membership mean that
opinions are opinions and not always representative of practice at large.
Finally one of the nice things about gp-uk is the lack of surveys!!! I often
hear gps tell me about the number of surveys they receive and how they don't
have the time/inclination to fill them in. Lets not lose the 'informal
network of support' ends of membership by formalising the means of gathering
information on the list.
Best wishes
Rob
