This figure seems to have ben around for a while - isn't it a survival
from a time when lists were larger *but* work intensity was less?

No - just the point where there's a real risk of *another* partner
sucumbing! Remember the way it's arranged? The level falls over time..

If the locum is *not* full time, the rate is reduced pro rata. If, as is
likely, you can't find a locum, neither the HA nor the locum insurance
will pay out.. adding yet more stress!
No wonder a lot of us are seriously contemplating early retirement..

Joys of being an "Independant contractor"? at anyrate, we can now claim
the insurance as a tax deductable expense..
