What, at my neck?

This "third on call" as a year 4 spReg in obs & gynae seems to
entail the worst of both worlds. She's on call for 48 hours,
living out, so she goes in for several hours on Sat and Sun
morning to clean up the mess from the night before, then still
has to come home and clean up the mess left by my inadequate
attempts to looks after three children under six, and then she
gets called back in, doing emergency sections and similar life-
saving stuff until the early hours of the morning.
Whatever you do, don't get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing
but sheer, unalduterated admiration for my good wife's stubborness
in following a path in hospital medicine. Just as the end of the
line hoves into view (consultant post 18-24 months away) the
"powers that be" seem to be trying to rush through a "changing the
goalposts" tactic (by introducing more exams at the end of training).
Susan - my wife - is 38 soon. She's been a junior hospital doctor
since 1984 (part-time in the last four years). She's passed all the
tests they threw at her, jumped over all the hurdles, and through
the hoops, and she's still sticking it out, married to me (which
must say a lot) and being a wonderful mother to our three darling
kiddies.
I try not to moan too much about my lot in front of her, because
she's always got something more horrible, and yet, she's always got
the time to listen to my gripes.
Cripes! I'm not sure what I was on about when I started typing but
I've now ended up by telling everyone what a wonderful, mutually
supportive marriage we have. Good on us.
Any potential "best mates" out there in Gretare Manchester looking
for a new partner?
Any GPs at all in the Gtr Mcr area like to go to see either the
Giants basketball or the Storm ice hockey at the MEN Arena?
Pocahontas on Ice in October? Dave Brubeck at the end of October
at the Bridgewater Hall?
Drop me a line, we'll do lunch.
