As understood it the 'Prof' voluntered two of his *worst* patients.
One young girl dropped out and so another newish asthmatic took her
place.
After *three* months the two bad asthmatics were off their nebulisers
and oral steroids and taking steroid inhalers. The bloke hadn't been
able to walk down the street but was now playing golf. The young
girl was off all treatment.
The 'Prof' right at the ouset didn't believe it would work and
despite a trial of n=3 with apparent vast improvement in the patients
he rejected the outcome as being significant.
Ok I don't accept in all the mumbo-jumbo about pC02 levels, but can
manage to rationalise the improvement as being due to nose breathing
filtering out allergens so the bronchial mucosa is less challenged.
IMHO it is definitely worth following up. Spoke with our
pharmaceutical adviser who said it was interesting but didn't offer
to help in setting up a study, depsite the possible enourmous drug
cost savings (forgeting about patient benefit!). Unfortunately no
drug company is going to sponsor this:-(
