You called? ...
Death of a Patient
She didn't want to bother me
It wasn't a real emergency
Yet once again the vice had tightened
round her chest,
Her friend had pulled the warden's cord
Although she had implored
her not to make a fuss
Most mornings she had felt this pain
Surely it would pass again
Somehow it was like a friend
Yet now she struggled for her breath
She saw that she was facing death
But still she didn't want to call me out.
At the end she called her friend
She died
When I got there, we cried.
